Axis Bank takes affirmative action on LGBTQIA+ hiring

Mumbai: Axis Bank said that it is taking affirmative action to promote the hiring of LGBTQIA+ individuals by initiating skill-based hiring regardless of their academic background.

The bank has launched `ARISE ComeAsYouAre' an open campus program, foucsed on skills-based hiring that prioritises skill-set and potential over traditional factors such as a specific degree or college pedigreee.

"This recruitment program is designed to welcome talented LGBTQ+ individuals from any college in India to build a a career in banking with Axis Bank," the bank said ina statement. Harish Iyer head DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) said that the program's focus was on innovation through diverse perspectives and fair candidate assessment.

Rajkamal Vempati, the bank's HR head, said that their focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion respects and recognizes the importance of distinctive life journeys and varied identities beyond gender paradigms. She emphasized that this approach values both visible and invisible markers, fostering a culture of innovation and leveraging the diverse talent pools within their rich demographic.
